A deeper sense of life

The inspiration for this article comes from a recent discussion the author had with a friend. To place this article into perspective, it is important that the author shares a brief background on how and why this conversation happened.

A friend of the author expressed that she cannot comprehend how some people can simply abandon their children on the street or in a garbage bin. This came after she recently gave birth herself, and is experiencing the beautiful bond between a mother and child.

For some of us, this may sound shocking, the idea of leaving a small baby on the street or in a garbage bin, but this is the reality that we live in. In some countries, it is nothing out of the norm to hear about small babies being found in public toilets or in garbage bins. This happens.

The question asked, is how is this possible? How can anyone do something like that? The response was something in the line of the following.

Going beyond the human identity

We are infinite, timeless, beings. We exist beyond the limited concepts of space and time. Before this human birth happens, before conception happens, we already consciously decided that we need this specific incarnation, in order to learn or to experience a set of conditions. We need a set of conditions, in order to work out certain karma, we can say.

Because we are timeless, limitless, we have been creating causes and experiencing effects since beginningless time. Thus, it only makes sense that we constantly need a new set of conditions, in a Universe specific to what we require to learn, in order to play out our karma.

We can also think of how the Bible says something like you reap what you sow. Therefore, we do not have to believe in karma, we can simply look at the nature of the reality we live in, which is bound to the rules of cause and effect. Action and reaction.

Since we decided consciously on this incarnation we take on, we have already agreed with a group of other beings or souls- whatever we want to label it - that we need them in order to have these experiences, and for them to have a similar experience. We can call this collective karma or soul-groups, or a mandala. There are more terms for it.

This decision is made beyond the personal human identities we currently have, such as John Smith, Ashok Kumar, Jane Doe, or whatever we identify as, in this human experience.

So, the decision to be dumped in a bin, to be born into a wealthy family, to be aborted, this has been decided all along, and as it happens, it is served by Love and grace. The love of God, the love of our Higher Self, or the Universe, in whichever way we see it.

Why or how is it served by love, we may ask? See, our suffering brings us to peace. Only when we know the darkness, we can appreciate the light. We can see the suffering as medicine, helping us to transform our situation into a blissful state. Just like the Lotus grows from the mud, we too need the suffering to transform the mind into a state of peace and happiness.

Growing together

We need each other, in order to grow, to learn, to evolve spiritually and emotionally. All of this is part of The Plan, and it is already perfect.

When we perceive and experience life from this point of view, nothing is ever good, nor bad. It is all in perfect harmony. Concepts of good and bad can be seen as the two sides of one coin. A coin of non-duality.

With the realization of emptiness and the understanding of non-duality, we know that the act of giving birth to a child and the act of aborting a child, in the most deepest sense of these acts, both share the same emptiness. It is all the same, it is all perfect.

Now of course, by simply saying this, we can feel that life is unfair, evil or purposeless. We can very easily fall into the trap of nihilism. That is why it is important to meditate on emptiness, to have a deep understanding of emptiness. With the wisdom of understanding and realizing emptiness, we can participate in the world in the most passionate way.

To conclude, we can say that depending on where we are standing, the view we have on life may not always be a beautiful one. There is suffering. There is impermanence. And more. Yet, this is what makes life beautiful, this is what makes life colorful, it is the flavor of life itself!

When we perceive with wisdom, with true inner peace, life is one magical, beautiful happening. All of it happening in the precious present, the here and now. There is nowhere to go, nothing to do. We can simply observe. Simply be.
