We may read or listen to spiritual talks on a frequent basis. In this way, we keep absorbing the content, and also, it is possible that we keep thinking of the content we are reading and hearing.
This, of course, is very helpful. When our thoughts are aligned with peace, interconnectedness, love, and kindness, it creates a peaceful experience for ourselves and those around us. But what about the times when our thoughts are not aligned with peace, interconnectedness, love, and kindness?
Let's investigate this a little bit deeper.
What the author will share here comes from his own experience and his own opinion, but some readers may find this relatable in their own way.
Living in an environment where there is a peaceful atmosphere and where we are constantly reminded of inner peace and happiness, we may think that we've finally reached a state of lasting peace and fulfillment.
We think like this, but is it our reality?
As we step into a more 'challenging' environment, we soon realize that these were only thoughts of peace, ideas of interconnectedness, and more.
See, in the same way that thinking of having a cold beer is not the experience of having a cold beer, merely thinking of peace and interconnectedness does not mean that this is our experience.
Having a mental understanding of our True Nature is helpful. It helps us, it guides our thoughts and actions, yes, but as long as this is only another thought, another idea, we will not be truly fulfilled.
Therefore, it is important that we really check up, that we do not just rely on books and teachers to tell us about our Self. It is important that we do not only entertain thoughts of our True Nature, but that we investigate and become aware of our True Nature.
Knowing ourSelf with certainty and intuitively - not just mentally, we know that we are truly free from impermanence, suffering, lack. We can experience any environment, any circumstances, while inner-peace remains.
This Knowledge of our True Nature is not the knowledge of an object, or the mental understanding of another concept. This Knowledge comes from direct experience. It is Self-Knowledge.
Only with the Knowledge of Self, can we experience lasting peace and happiness.

Misunderstandings
For some time, the author was living in a monastic-Buddhist environment in India. The area is very peaceful, with few opportunities to get annoyed and irritated, and few opportunities to cherish this idea of a 'separate self'. At the same time, there are many opportunities to study spiritual texts, attend spiritual teachings, discuss philosophy, meditate, and do self-reflection.Living in an environment where there is a peaceful atmosphere and where we are constantly reminded of inner peace and happiness, we may think that we've finally reached a state of lasting peace and fulfillment.

When we are seeking lasting peace and fulfillment, we cannot rely on thoughts and ideas. Clinging to concepts does not help. The mind keeps changing, thoughts come and go. Thus, our thoughts of peace and happiness will also come and go. Does this make sense?
Please consider this for a few moments...
