Resting in Awareness

In this short and simple article, the author shares a recent physical experience and reflection.

Recently, the author fell very sick. It happened unexpectedly, and the illness forced the author to stop work, stop household duties, and just rest.

Being sick and physically weak, the author was doing the bare minimum. Even simple physical activities required a lot of energy and effort.

Thinking

Being tired and low on energy, the author realized that even the 'thinking process' required a lot of energy. To stay entangled in thoughts was so exhausting, that the author stopped paying attention to the thought process, and just 'rested' in the natural, thoughtless state.

Attention sunk back into its Source.
Returning to this inner, Silent Space, there is peace.

Once the author had more energy, this situation was reflected upon. It was a reminder that thinking, or being engaged in thoughts, is not our natural state.

The same goes for so-called 'virtuous thoughts' and what we sometimes refer to as 'praying'. These are also mental activities, not different from other thoughts.

So, what can we conclude from this?

No requirement

A while ago, one of the author's friends also fell very sick. She told the author that she was so sick, she thought that she was going to die. She tried to pray, but had no energy left to pray, she said.

This is yet another reminder that just resting in peaceful Silence, resting in Awareness - this requires no effort. We can rest in Awareness, despite the activity or inactivity of the physical body and thoughts.

To be our True Nature requires nothing.
No qualification, no preparation, no authority.
No intellectual understanding.
Being is effortless.

See, we are already and always That which is Peaceful and Present.
