This article is inspired by a phrase commonly used in Tibetan Buddhism: Precious human rebirth.
However, this article is not necessarily a 'Buddhist' article. It does not have to be about a re-birth. It can simply be about our everyday experiences, in everyday life. There are no beliefs or religions required to understand this article - only our own sincerity.
From time to time, life brings us challenges. For some of us, the challenges seem to occur more frequently. We may wonder why the challenges come our way more than it comes the way of others.
See, this has nothing to do with 'punishment' by some external force, as we may have been told. In fact, it is quite the opposite. These challenges are gifts from Grace.
Love brings us these challenges to check up, to investigate to who or what the unhappiness and challenges belong. The challenges point out where our aversion lies. They point out who or what we are not.
Knowing this, when life brings us a tremendous amount of challenges, it is a big gift. When we feel that we are pushed into a corner with nowhere to go and nothing more to do - this is when the idea of a 'separate self' comes into the spotlight. This is the fortunate opportunity to really investigate this 'separate self' that is appearing so large and big right in front of us - this thought!
For as long as we identify as this I-thought, and believe that we are this person, this body, this 'separate self', Love will constantly offer us opportunities to know our Real Self.
What better opportunity can we get, to learn who we truly are? With this precious human rebirth, we have the fortunate opportunity to know our True Nature!
As human beings, we are equipped with the intellect to discriminate between the unreal and the Real. Our intellect can help us to understand what we are not. This intellect will eventually dissolve into its Source when it served its purpose.
See, life is a gift, and an opportunity to learn. We have this opportunity to experience and learn about forgiveness, compassion, and appreciation. We have the opportunity to find a teacher that can point out our Inner Peace. We have the opportunity to sit in silence, and to turn our attention inwards.
We have this life, to awaken to our True Nature.

Into the spotlight
When we observe closely, we'll notice that the unhappiness these challenges bring, is always accompanied by the idea of a 'separate self'. They always involve this 'me' and 'I' we wrongly believe ourselves to be.Love brings us these challenges to check up, to investigate to who or what the unhappiness and challenges belong. Opportunity
When challenged and unhappy, we may think that it would be better to have a different life. Or, to not have a life at all. But, let's consider the following. What better opportunity can we get, to learn who we truly are? With this precious human rebirth, we have the fortunate opportunity to know our True Nature!

A lovely article, nicely written. I consider myself to have went through so many struggles and challenges in life, my mind took me to dark places for it. I was genuinely miserable and wished that I never lived and considered my life as a punishment, so your words hit a cord with me!
ReplyDeleteI am in a better place now , internally I mean , lately I feel more connected to something deep within, this something keeps telling me that it’s Ok! Whatever happened is ok whatever will happen is ok , also and this is a bit bizarre, this something inside me is falling in love me and this feeling is much better than the self loathing I used to feel before.
Thank you
