A pointer inwards

This short and simple article serves as a reminder of our peaceful Nature. A small and simple pointer 'inwards'.

We are not required to take any action. We can simply acknowledge what is already and always here and now.

The body as an object

First, we want to acknowledge the physical body as an object, appearing to us, as the subject. Because the body appears to us, we know that we are not this body, right?

Confirming that we are not this physical body, we can observe it from a 'distance'. We see that it constantly changes. It has the need to survive, to be well, to be healthy. It goes through certain phases, well and unwell, and that is okay. Because we are certain that we are not the body, we can peacefully accept that the body will experience pain, sickness, and death.

Knowing this, we know for a fact that the body can never bring us lasting peace and happiness, as its very nature is change and interdependence. We accept this fact, and we move on.

Thoughts as an object

Then, we observe thoughts. They arise, and they dissolve again. They arise as objects, to us, the subject. Because we can observe them, we know that we are not them. This means that thoughts will continue to arise and dissolve, but we are not the thoughts themselves. We remain present, aware, even in the absence of thoughts. We can put this to the test, and see whether it is true or not.

Once we confirm that we are not the thoughts, we know that they cannot bring us lasting peace and happiness either.

The same experiment and understanding can be applied to bodily sensations, and what we call emotions.

So, what is left?

Peaceful Nature

We simply need to acknowledge our ever-present, unchanging Nature. This is not the idea of our awareness, or the idea of existence, but consciousness itself. Knowing that we are pure consciousness, we know that we can never lack anything. How can we?

So, we remain, unceasingly fulfilled. We remain peaceful, even when the physical body is going through this or that. We remain content, regardless of which thoughts or circumstances arise.

Effortlessly, we allow everything and anything to arise within us, without aversion or discrimination. Without the slightest effort, we are the Space in which everything appears and disappears.

As we peacefully observe the desert sand shifting and changing, we can also peacefully observe the body, the thoughts, and everything else, changing.
