The concept of samsara

This short article is inspired by a recent conversation with a dear friend. The friend was visiting the author, and he asked the author's view on the topic of "samsara".

As explored in an article back in 2022, the term "samsara" is commonly used in Buddhism. A simple explanation for samsara would be "trapped in an endless cycle of suffering".

In response to the friend's request, the author elaborated - a little bit - in the following way.

Subjective experience

Samsara is subjective. It is related to the one that is entertaining the concept of samsara.

There is no specific place where one can say "This is samsara". It is not that samsara exists in the West, but when one goes to India, one will not experience samsara.

So, if one entertains the idea that there is something like samsara, and that one is trapped in something like samsara, then this will be one's experience. However, this concept entertains the idea that there exists a "separate self" who is "stuck" in something.

The author continued to explain that from his own experience, he has witnessed the world dissolving into himself, and again appearing from himself. Therefore, he knows that the world is only himself and nothing else. There is no "one" that is stuck or caught in something.

Now, if oneSelf is not samsara, then how can the world, or that which appears from oneSelf, be samsara?

Let's consider.

Is it true?

The author pointed out to his friend, that when the author is speaking of "me" or "himself", he is not referring to an object, such as the face and the person sitting on the chair.  It refers to the Real I, to Consciousness.

Consciousness is not limited and is not isolated to a single entity. In fact, the one and only Consciousness that is shining in and through the author, is also shining in and through all forms of life. All forms of life are only Consciousness alone.

Consciousness alone is.

To conclude, let's check up and see if there is really a "separate self" existing as an object. Is this true, or merely an idea we entertain? If we check up, we may experience and realize that we are the free, Silent Space from which everything expands, and in which everything dissolves again.

We are not an isolated object in space. We are the Conscious Space in which the world appears and dissolves.
