This article is inspired by a recent conversation with someone. The topic discussed is quite similar to what we explored in a previous article. However, the discussion we explore in this article, was held with another person, and in another context.
The person explained to the author that they feel "stuck" in a system. They feel trapped in a society where they do not want to be, and since they can remember, they have had this deep wish to be free.
They expressed their deep frustration and sadness due to this situation.
For example, one person may be looking for "freedom". They may imagine that if they have a work that pays them well and that allows them to work and travel all over the world, then they will finally have freedom.
Another person may be looking for "peace". They may have a well-paid job that requires them to travel around the world all the time. But, they actually wish to just live a quiet, simple life in the countryside. They imagine if they have this, then they will be at peace.
Another person may be looking for "love". This person bounces from one relationship to the next, hoping that they will finally feel loved and that they can also love someone. However, relationships do not seem to work out and they feel they will never find love.
In the author's case, he was looking for "happiness" and believed that his career would give him the happiness he longed for. He believed that the higher he could climb the corporate ladder, the more money he would earn, and the more stuff he could buy that would make him happy.
These are just a few examples of how we are looking for this freedom, this peace, this love, this happiness. But, what is it really?
So, we may be longing for one of these, but what we are really yearning for, is to know ourSelf. To realize our True Nature and to live by this Knowing.
There is nothing wrong with desiring peace, love, happiness, and freedom, because this is just the longing we have for ourSelf. However, we tend to look for this in the wrong places. We look for this outside of ourSelf.
The only way to fully satisfy this yearning for freedom, peace, love, and happiness, is to acknowledge who we truly are. We need to investigate honestly and sincerely, and we have to be willing to let go of everything that we believe ourselves to be. We have to be willing to free ourselves from the false ideas we entertain about ourselves, and we have to let go of all the past concepts and limitations we have entangled ourselves in.
In this way, by sincerely checking up, we may finally find the Hidden Treasure that we have long been searching for.
